Artscope November/December 2011 review of All Flavors by Andre van der Welde. Liza Bingham paints spare images of simple dwellings nestled within a bucolic setting of wiry trees rendered with an economy close to abstraction. Framed by simple ornate borders that act like a lacy portal onto a nostalgic world half remembered, they’re reminiscent of old postcards or photographs caught in an otherworldly light of rainbow hues. While it’s hard to be sated when the bites are so small, “All Flavors” succeeds as a visual sampler when it’s alluring enough to arouse the appetite for more. Happily that’s most of the time.
